In the heart of the night, between Thursday 6 and Friday 7 August, Casteggioin the Pavese area – woke up to the news of a tragic accident that cost the life of a 20-year-old. Shortly after four, a car crashed into the fence wall of a villa along via Brodolini, a residential street not far from the center. On board were two women: the passenger, Camilla Villani, 20 years old, died instantly; the driver, a 32-year-old, was rescued and transferred to the hospital. According to the first information gathered by the rescuers, the impact was very violent. Emergency teams – two ambulances, a medical car, and a helicopter activated with a red code – quickly reached the accident site. Along with them, the carabinieri from the Voghera company and the firefighters from Pavia also intervened, called to secure the area and support the extraction operations.

The provisional reconstruction

The investigators’ checks are still ongoing, but a first reconstruction places the accident at number 31. The car, for reasons yet to be clarified, lost control and ended up against the wall of the private property. The 118 medical staff stabilized the driver and transferred her to San Matteo in Pavia, where she is hospitalized. For Camilla Villani, however, there was nothing to be done: the injuries sustained were too severe. Investigations will continue in the coming hours to precisely define the dynamics and any responsibilities. From what has emerged, the 32-year-old reportedly offered to take the girl home after an evening spent with friends in the central square of Casteggio.

Ongoing investigations

The authorities are collecting testimonies and verifying every useful element to clarify what happened in the minutes before the crash. Technical surveys and the results of clinical examinations on the driver will also be fundamental.
