The season for renewing labor contracts in the transport sector opens. During the joint meeting of delegates from Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, and Uiltrasporti, the unified platform for the renewal of the national collective labor contract for the shipping industry was approved. The document is the result of months of discussions among the three transport sector trade unions and sets a contract duration from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2029.

“The platform,” explain the three trade unions, “is born in an international context marked by profound geopolitical, economic, and technological transformations, which are reshaping the strategic role of maritime transport. In this scenario, there is no stable growth without valuing people, skills, and the professionalism of those who work, and the relaunch of the Italian shipping industry must be based on a balance between business competitiveness, job quality, and adequate wages.”
“The presented document,” continue Filt, Fit, and Uiltrasporti, “is structured around three central elements: wages, protections, participation, and thirteen concrete demands. Among these are the guarantee of job continuity to counter contractual dumping, full recovery of purchasing power, and the involvement of unions in managing technological transformations. Added to these are the introduction of the Stop Work Authority, meaning the right of every worker to stop an activity deemed unsafe without fear of consequences, combating aggression, including those conveyed on social media, strengthening welfare, supplementary pensions, measures for generational turnover, and recognition of maritime work as arduous.”

“This renewal, marked by continuity and unity,” emphasize the three trade unions, “was developed as the natural continuation of a path built in the two previous negotiation seasons, which saw the consolidation of the single contract as a barrier to dumping, focusing on strengthening two key aspects: onboard safety and welfare.”
“The sea is a strategic resource for this country, and the workers in the sector represent the real capital to invest in for the future. A solid and fair contract is the concrete tool to demonstrate this with facts,” conclude Filt Cgil, Fit-Cisl, and Uiltrasporti.
