OSTUNI. A 70-year-old man, originally from Bari and residing in Ostuni, in the province of Brindisi, died in the afternoon in Ostuni during a sudden thunderstorm when lightning struck the spot where he was fishing with a friend. The circumstances are being reconstructed by the local police station. The friend was unharmed but remained in shock. The lightning struck exactly where the two men were, and the 70-year-old died immediately. Rescue efforts, alerted by the friend, were in vain.

The cause of death could have been the electrocution itself, but it is being verified whether a fall on the rocks after the lightning struck exactly where the victim was could have been fatal.
