AREZZO. The 47-year-old man who was seriously injured during the night in an accident along the Tiberina 3Bis, in Pieve Santo Stefano did not make it. A municipal employee, he died shortly before noon at the Le Scotte hospital in Siena, where he had been transported in critical condition: the injuries sustained in the crash were too severe.

The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. during the night between Sunday, August 23 and Monday, August 24, in the industrial area of Pian di Guido, near the Pieve Santo Stefano Sud exit of the E45.

The carabinieri stop and the chase

According to an initial reconstruction, still under investigation, the man did not stop at a carabinieri checkpoint. After the officers signaled him to stop, the patrol began to follow him. Upon seeing the flashing lights, the 47-year-old reportedly tried to get away, for reasons yet to be determined.

Shortly after, he lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a low wall. The impact was particularly violent and completely destroyed the car he was traveling in.

The rescue and the race to Le Scotte

The 47-year-old’s condition appeared very serious from the start. Rescuers stabilized him and urgently transferred him to the Le Scotte hospital in Siena, where doctors tried to save his life. However, the injuries sustained in the accident proved fatal. The man, who leaves behind a 21-year-old daughter, lived in Pieve Santo Stefano.

All aspects of the incident remain to be clarified, including the reasons why the driver did not comply with the carabinieri’s stop signal and what happened in the moments just before the crash. Investigations are ongoing.
