GROSSETO. Tragedy in the night between Saturday and Sunday morning (September 6) on the Scansanese, the road that connects Grosseto to the Albegna and Fiora Hills. A 29-year-old man, Abdelwahid Haichami, of Moroccan origin, lost his life crashing with his car. In the car with him were three underage girls: a fifteen-year-old is in an induced pharmacological coma, while the other two – a fifteen-year-old and a seventeen-year-old – sustained lighter injuries but were still taken to the hospital.

The accident
According to what has been learned, Abdelwahid Haichami and the girls who were with him had been at a birthday party of a friend who turned 18. The party was held at a venue in Principina a Mare, and it was from here that Abdelwahid drove to return home, towards the town of Scansano.
The dynamics of the accident are still unclear. The only certainty is that the return from a birthday party turned into a tragedy. Near Preselle, a locality of Scansano just outside the municipality of Grosseto, the young man’s car reportedly overturned several times, ending up in front of the vineyards. Once the car stopped, the windshield was shattered and the roof of the vehicle crushed. The front part of the vehicle was also completely destroyed by the impact, first with the asphalt and then with the earth.
It was from the car reduced to little more than some metal sheets that the body of Abdelwahid Haichami was extracted early this morning. There was nothing to be done for him: he died instantly.
The injured
The fifteen-year-old who is in a pharmacological coma was transported to the Policlinico of Siena by the regional helicopter. The other two girls were taken to the emergency room in Grosseto. The 118 emergency services of the South East Tuscany ASL were activated at 3:39 in the morning. Firefighters, a medical car, two Red Cross ambulances, a Misericordia ambulance, and the carabinieri intervened on site.

The victim and the community in shock
The victim of the accident had been living with his parents and brother in Scansano for about ten years. Abdelwahid worked as a construction worker. The family, the Moroccan community, and the entire Scansano area were deeply shaken by the loss of Abdelwahid Haichami.
Since the early hours of this morning, the morgue of the Grosseto hospital has filled with people who came to understand what happened, but above all to comfort the victim’s family. Dozens of people, all originally from Morocco, joined in painful embraces, trying to support each other and bringing comfort to Abdel’s mother, father, and brother.
«We don’t know anything, we don’t know how it happened, we are waiting for news,» said the victim’s brother, Larbi, with his mind and heart turned to his brother, to “Tirreno.” «It works like this: in misfortune we come together. Our Muslim community is very united,» some compatriots present at the morgue told “Tirreno,” speaking of Abdel as a special young man, respected and well-liked by all, who had built a solid network of relationships and was loved.
