The overall picture therefore remains critical: despite the absence of new absolute peaks, the persistence of the heat is making daily management difficult, especially in the inland areas.

Temperatures in the main cities
“Florence on Sunday, July 19 recorded a maximum of 37° – reports the Cmt – and on the morning of Monday, July 20, it reached 24.3°.” The Tuscan capital continues to show very high values both in maximum and minimum temperatures, a sign of tropical nights that do not allow real cooling of the urban area. “In other parts of the region – continues the Centro Meteo – even on Sunday, July 19, we reached 38/39°, especially in the inland areas between Siena and Grosseto.” The southern provinces remain the most exposed to the heatwave, with values consistently exceeding 38 degrees, making the situation particularly difficult for agriculture, livestock, and outdoor activities.
A normality that does not arrive

However, over the vast majority of the region, everything will end with nothing, except for impressive lightning visible towards the north or east.” Most of the territory will not benefit from significant rainfall: the only clear sign will be the presence of lightning towards Emilia, Umbria, and Marche.
The slight midweek temperature drop
“From Wednesday, July 22, we will have a modest temperature drop but do not expect coolness,” explain the Cmt. The slight temperature decrease expected midweek will not be enough to bring pleasant conditions. Maximums will still remain above the climatic average. “Maximums will go from 36-39 degrees to 33-36 degrees. Minimums from 20-25 degrees to 18-23 degrees,” the analysis continues. The drop will be only partially noticeable, also thanks to a decrease in humidity that will make the air slightly more bearable.
Looking ahead to the weekend
“To seriously hope for a more significant thunderstorm break – says the Centro Meteo – we will probably have to wait for the weekend of July 25-26.” According to models, a more significant change could arrive over the weekend, with the possibility of widespread rain and a more marked temperature drop. “At the moment, several forecast models suggest something more serious with rain that could finally affect the entire region for a few hours.” If confirmed, the weekend could bring a real air change, also useful to counteract the drought that is beginning to appear in several provinces.
No summer crisis
“Beware of those who will start talking about a summer crisis – concludes the Centro Meteo Toscana –. It would simply be a thunderstorm break of a few hours and nothing more.” The Centro Meteo Toscana calls for caution: even in the case of more intense thunderstorms, it will not be a seasonal change but an isolated episode within a summer that remains very hot. “Situations that in a normal summer occurred 3/4 times between July and August and that for now have not yet been seen.” The lack of these thunderstorm breaks, typical of Mediterranean summers, is one of the elements making this season particularly heavy.
