Weather in Tuscany, peak of the heat then thermal collapse and storms: is it really like that? The analysis for each province

Tuscany continues to deal with a phase of very intense heat, set to continue in the coming days. This emerges from the analysis released Wednesday, July 15 by the Centro Meteo Toscana, which confirms high temperatures and a worsening expected between Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 17, when the region will reach the peak of the new heat wave.

Temperatures still high: towards 40 degrees

According to the Cmt, the day of Tuesday, July 14 recorded extreme values with “peaks that reached 38-39°”. The real peak, however, is expected between Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 17: “Locally up to 40-41° degrees,” explains the Centro Meteo Toscana.

Cool? No

The Centro Meteo Toscana also addresses the topic of the alleged temperature drop: “It will not be so for Tuscany,” is the clear denial from the Cmt. The reason is linked to the distribution of instability expected over the weekend of July 18-19: “The real relief will come in those limited areas where between Saturday 18 and Tuesday, July 21 we will see some afternoon instability with the possibility of thunderstorms and a temperature drop limited to these phenomena.” The areas that may benefit from some afternoon showers are mainly those farther from the coast: “Instability will be seen especially in the more inland provinces, that is along the Apennines and more sporadically among the provinces of Florence – Siena – Arezzo and Grosseto, particularly the areas around Amiata,” explains the Cmt. Possible phenomena also in the north of the region:

“On the morning of Saturday, July 18, perhaps some showers may also be seen in the inland areas between Massa and Carrara and in the Tuscan-Ligurian Apennine area”

Temperatures still above average

The temperature drop will be modest and temporary: “Elsewhere we will indeed have a temperature drop of a few degrees but we will simply return to average. That is, during the hottest hours 32-35° degrees will still be possible even on those ‘theoretically’ cooler days.” On the coast, a few degrees less thanks to the wind: “Along the coast we will have a temperature drop of a few degrees always over the weekend thanks to stronger southwesterly winds (with rough sea) especially north of Vada”

And after?

No summer break: summer remains solid. The Centro Meteo Toscana is clear: “No summer in crisis and no major unstable break coming to our region,” confirm the Cmt. The most intense phenomena will remain north of the Apennines: “The most intense thunderstorms will remain north of the Apennines, while for us everything will be resolved with a few less extreme days and nothing more.” Tuscany will therefore still experience days of very intense heat, with peaks up to 41 degrees and a weekend only slightly more bearable in the inland areas. No real temperature collapse, no break in summer: just some localized afternoon showers and a temporary return to seasonal averages.
