The Tuscany Region has issued an orange alert for the risk of severe thunderstorms, valid from 10 PM today until 10 PM tomorrow, Friday, August 21.

Alongside the risk related to precipitation, they explain from the Centro Meteo Toscana, particular «attention must also be paid to the wind, with gusts that, according to the latest forecasts, could locally reach 120-130 kilometers per hour in the most affected areas. The strongest gusts will be associated with the passage of the thunderstorm front and, precisely due to the nature of the phenomena, their location remains difficult to predict with precision at the moment».
The evolution will therefore be monitored in the coming hours, when it will be possible to have more precise indications on the areas affected by the passage of the front. «According to the latest analyses, a first particularly intense phase could affect Upper Tuscany in the morning, involving the area between Pisa and Versilia», they further explain from Cmt.
Subsequently, between mid and late morning, the front could move towards the inland areas, also affecting the hills near the Apennines.

«The expected gusts, if they actually reach the indicated values, could be very violent and potentially dangerous. In the most exposed areas, the possibility of falling branches and, in the most intense cases, even large trees cannot be excluded».
Besides the wind, the risk related to heavy precipitation and thunderstorms associated with the passage of the front remains confirmed.
