The real change, explain the Centro Meteo Toscana, is expected between September 9 and 10, when cooler oceanic currents will reach the Mediterranean. A thermal drop of about ten degrees is expected, accompanied by Mistral winds and the possibility of thunderstorms. It could be the transition to a decidedly more autumnal climate.
Today will be the hottest day of September
The most intense phase of the heat is expected in the next few hours. Today, Friday, September 5, could be the hottest day of the entire month of September and, according to the current evolution, it could also represent one of the last summer peaks before the decisive change expected next week.
In some Tuscan locations, thermometers could gain one or more degrees compared to today’s values, with conditions still characterized by scorching heat and low humidity.
From Saturday humidity increases: mugginess arrives
The weather picture will begin to change starting Saturday. Humidity will tend to increase, causing a slight decrease in maximum temperatures, on the order of one or two degrees.
The heat, however, could become less pleasant. The increase in humidity will indeed increase the feeling of mugginess, while minimum temperatures will also tend to rise.
Sunday and Monday will remain days still characterized by summer conditions, but with a progressively more sultry climate.

Between September 9 and 10 the seasonal change arrives
The real change, explain the Cmt, is expected between Tuesday, September 9 and Wednesday, September 10, when decidedly cooler oceanic currents could reach the Mediterranean through the Rhone valley.
The expected evolution indicates a marked drop in temperatures, with a particularly significant air exchange.
According to current projections, it should not be the classic summer break destined to end within 48 hours. The cool currents, accompanied by Mistral winds, could in fact persist for several days, causing a more structured change in atmospheric circulation.
Possible thunderstorms with the arrival of cool air
The passage of cooler currents could also be accompanied by one or more unstable fronts. The exact evolution will have to be defined in the next updates, but the risk of even intense thunderstorms cannot be excluded, especially in the phases of greater contrast between the pre-existing warm air and the cooler air arriving.
Temperatures could drop by about ten degrees compared to current values, with effects expected to affect much of the second decade of September.
A real atmospheric “reset”
If the trend is confirmed, we would be facing a real reset of the atmospheric configuration, capable of profoundly changing the face of the month of September.
After a first part still strongly summery, the month could take on decidedly more autumnal characteristics, with lower temperatures, northern currents, and greater atmospheric dynamism.
