GENOA. This morning, Thursday, August 20, at 6, a lightning bolt struck the locomotive of the Freccia 8601 Genoa-Rome train between the stations of Sestri Levante and Riva Trigoso. Passengers were made to disembark and transferred to another Freccia.

Disruptions to traffic
Train slowdowns were recorded throughout the morning due to the severe weather affecting all of Liguria. Shortly before 1 pm, another lightning bolt caused the Ventimiglia station to crash, completely blocking traffic.

In the Genoa hub, rail traffic is recovering after the severe weather that hit Liguria. On the Ventimiglia-Genoa line, traffic is resuming from 3 pm after a lightning bolt struck the control room of the Ventimiglia station, causing the automatic traffic management systems to crash. Technical interventions by Rfi are underway to restore regular traffic. Slowdowns during the day also occurred on the Ligurian Levante lines due to abnormalities found in some line switches.
