The Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy announces that, based on the latest data collected by the Mimit Fuel Price Observatory, today – Thursday, August 20, 2026 – the average price of fuels in “self service” mode along the national road network is 2.002 euros/l for gasoline and 2.116 euros/l for diesel. Gasoline above 2 euros has not happened since September 2023.
On the highway network, instead, the average self price is 2.077 euros/l for gasoline and 2.186 euros/l for diesel. «Gasoline breaks through 2 euros today on the road network, while diesel, both on the highway and on the road network, records the highest value since July 28, the first day on which the 14-cent excise cut theoretically came into effect, which, after the extension of August 6, will last until the 24th of the month, a reduction that, however, was only seen at the pumps starting from July 29. In particular, on the highway it is sold, according to Mimit averages, at 2.186 euros per liter, while on the roads, where it already broke the 2.1 euro threshold yesterday (2.107), it is found, according to our calculations based on the average regional prices which, unlike Mimit’s, also include Bolzano and Trento, at 2.119 euros per liter.» This is stated by Massimiliano Dona, president of the National Consumers Union.
«Gasoline, which today costs 2.077 euros per liter on the highway, on the road network, according to regional averages that include Bolzano and Trento, is sold at 2.005 euros per liter – continues Dona – For this reason, we ask the Government to intervene immediately, before the expiration on August 24, to raise the reduction on diesel from 14 to 30 cents, so as to bring the price below 2 euros per liter on the highway and finally do something for those who have a gasoline car: a 15-cent cut is urgently needed to return to a reasonable price of 1.9 euros per liter on the highway.»
