As explained by the Centro Meteo Toscana, «the atmospheric circulation over Europe has changed and the Atlantic flow has managed to push south the North African ridge that in recent weeks has dominated much of the continent». A turning point that is bringing rain and a sharp drop in temperatures.

What is happening
«The change is already evident in Great Britain, where until a few days ago the heat was dominant. Today, however, precipitation prevails, with temperatures below 20 degrees. In the coming days, values are expected to decrease further, dropping below 15 degrees.
The cool air will also reach France, which is about to experience the last day still with summer characteristics. From tomorrow, the first thunderstorms are expected, destined to intensify and progressively affect much of the country between Thursday and Friday».
According to the Cmt, these are signs confirming the change in atmospheric circulation announced in recent weeks and which is now entering its most evident phase.
For Italy, and particularly for the southernmost regions, the change does not mean the end of summer. What ends is mainly the long phase characterized by temperatures well above average, with deviations of 5-6 degrees and peaks close to 40 degrees.
Thunderstorms return
The weather picture is therefore heading towards decidedly more livable conditions. Already this morning, in several areas, minimum temperatures have dropped below 20 degrees again. In the coming days, there will also be opportunities for instability, with possible thunderstorms: the first passage in Tuscany is expected on Friday, while a second worsening could arrive in the middle of next week, accompanied by a further and more marked temperature drop. It is not excluded, however, that in the following weeks periods of greater stability may return.
The scenario
The scenario, however, appears destined to be the typical one of late summer, with more contained temperatures and far from the extremes of recent weeks.
