“We cannot in any way agree with a reform that does not provide guarantees for workers and the protection of the national contract – explain the General Secretary, Marco Verzari, and the National Secretary Roberto Gulli, and while considering it necessary to update some aspects of Law 84/94 to face the new challenges of logistics and international competitiveness, we believe that the text currently under discussion could distort the meaning underlying the law, profoundly altering the balances on which the Italian port system is based, without offering adequate guarantees to workers and the Port System Authorities.”
“We must continue to preserve – continue Verzari and Gulli – the public nature of ports and for this reason we are strongly convinced that the AdSPs must be coordinated by a public entity that can protect the port workers. We hope that Parliament, also involving the social partners, will deeply amend the bill, guaranteeing the public nature of the System Authorities and also introducing some non-negotiable guarantees: full protection of the workers of the Port System Authorities; full safeguarding of economic and regulatory treatment, including second-level bargaining; explicit recognition of the national collective port contract as the reference contract for all activities carried out by the new company; maintenance of adequate financial resources for the Port System Authorities so that they can continue to invest in the development of ports, support port work and employment.”
“We will continue to monitor carefully – conclude the two Uiltrasporti Secretaries – the progress of the reform, proposing amendments and promoting dialogue with institutions so that the reform can truly achieve the goal of further strengthening one of the fundamental systems for the economy of our country, such as the port system.”
