ROME. The Unified State-Regions-Municipalities Conference has given the green light to the bill for the reform of portuality. A positive opinion, that of the body, which however saw the representatives of the center-left administrations express themselves in the opposite way. Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Puglia, Tuscany and Sardinia have in fact expressed their opposition. An opposition, that expressed by the regions governed by the center-left, focused in particular on the centralization of many competences, a consequence of the birth of “Porti d’Italia spa”, which would reduce the role, competences and economic strength of the current port system authorities.
During the discussion at the Unified Conference, requests for modifications to the proposal currently under parliamentary scrutiny were not lacking. At the end of the proceedings, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport expressed satisfaction with the favorable opinion expressed by the Unified Conference on the bill.
In particular, Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi, who represented the Government, wanted to emphasize how, in his opinion, the strategy of involving all interested parties in the debate is bearing fruit.

«We wanted to build – he declared – a modern, concrete and as widely shared as possible reform, starting from dialogue with Municipalities, Provinces and Regions, and precisely the contribution of territorial bodies is allowing us to strengthen their role in strategic choices related to the development of ports».
Rixi then reiterated that the objective of the reform is to equip the Italian port system with more efficient governance. «The Italian port system – he explained – needs greater efficiency and decision-making capacity, but also governance that enhances the autonomy of the territories and makes our ports increasingly competitive in Europe and worldwide».
