To ensure greater capacity for connections between La Maddalena and Palau, but also a higher level of comfort. It is with these objectives that Delcomar, a shipping company active in connections between Sardinia and its smaller islands, is now deploying the “Franco DG” on the route, a new unit that arrives in Italy after being employed since 2018 in Greece, where it had just been launched.

A moment of the inauguration
«During peak traffic times – explains Franco Del Giudice, president of Delcomar – we had some congestion problems on this route, both for commuter traffic, in the early morning and towards evening, and during tourist peak times: in these situations, even with a trip every half hour, we struggled to keep up with the demand for transport, for which we are talking about approximately one million people per year. With this new unit, we will be able to solve this problem, putting into service a ship that is practically new: it was used very little in Greece; when it arrived here, it still had its packaging intact in some places».

In connections with the smaller islands, it is one of the newest ships operating in the Mediterranean. «It is equipped with four main engines – continues Gianfranco Atzeni, CEO of Delcomar – and four azimuthal propeller thrusters; therefore, it boasts very high maneuverability and great versatility, as well as being at the forefront of environmental sustainability. Loading and unloading operations, on such a high-performance vessel, will also be faster, to the benefit of passengers. With this addition, we improve the service provided to citizens and tourists, thus confirming the intention to invest in short-range connections and new vessels».
The Franco DG was presented in La Maddalena by Franco Del Giudice himself and his children Sara, who is part of Delcomar’s Board of Directors, and Enzo, who is its General Manager. Among others, Mayor Fabio Lai, Senator Ettore Licheri, Deputy Salvatore Deidda, President of the Chamber’s Transport Commission, Admiral Gianfranco Annunziata, Head of the General Consultancy Office to the Chief of Staff of Defense, and the President of Assarmatori Stefano Messina took part in the ceremony.
