A sharp deterioration in weather conditions is expected in Tuscany between today, Thursday the 20th, and tomorrow, Friday the 21st. Precipitation will initially affect the northwestern areas of the region, then progressively extend to the rest of the territory. For this reason, the Tuscany Region has issued an orange alert, valid from 10 PM today until 6 PM tomorrow, covering almost the entire regional territory (it is yellow in the southernmost areas). In short, a confirmation of what was already announced in the previous forecast.
Heavy rain in the Northwest
During the course of today, strong thunderstorms are possible especially in the northwestern areas, with phenomena intensifying from the evening.
In particular, in the province of Massa-Carrara, average accumulations between 20 and 30 millimeters are expected, with local peaks up to 50-70 millimeters. The precipitation could be particularly intense, with values up to 50-70 millimeters in one hour.
During the night and on Friday, bad weather will gradually extend to the rest of the region.
Friday the front crosses Tuscany
Friday will be characterized by strong thunderstorms extending from the Northwest towards the rest of Tuscany.
Average accumulations could reach 50-70 millimeters in the northwestern areas, up to the province of Pistoia, while in other northern areas average accumulations between 30 and 50 millimeters are expected. In the rest of the region, average accumulations could reach 20-30 millimeters.

Maximum amounts could reach 70-100 millimeters, with local peaks up to 150 millimeters. Precipitation could also reach hourly intensities of 60-80 millimeters.
Risk of strong thunderstorms and hail
Particular attention is given to thunderstorm phenomena, which could be locally intense. Hail associated with thunderstorms is not excluded.
The phenomena will tend to weaken during the second part of Friday.
Strong wind gusts
Thunderstorms could be accompanied by strong wind gusts, especially during the passage of the most intense phenomena. The combination of heavy precipitation, thunderstorms, and wind makes it necessary to pay particular attention in the most exposed areas.
