ROME. Valter Lavitola, currently detained at Rebibbia accused of ordering the attack against Sigfrido Ranucci, was the victim of an assault inside the penitentiary institution. According to what has been reconstructed, a group of inmates allegedly struck him during an episode still to be clarified, causing him non-serious injuries. The agents of the prison police intervened to assist him and restore calm to the situation.

The investigation
An investigation has been opened on the incident: the Prosecutor’s Office has started a file to reconstruct the dynamics and responsibilities, while at the moment neither the motivations nor the identity of the attackers are known. From what emerges, Lavitola was reportedly slapped.

The lawyers: “He didn’t tell us anything, a sign that it’s not serious”
The episode was not communicated to his lawyers, Sergio and Arturo Cola. “We spoke with him yesterday at 5 pm and he made no mention of what happened,” explains Sergio Cola, emphasizing that the assault would have occurred between late afternoon and evening. “If there had been serious consequences, we would have been informed. We are waiting to know the real extent of the facts to evaluate any initiatives.” Meanwhile, the defense is focused on the memorandum to be filed ahead of the Review hearing scheduled for September 7.
