Serious work accident on the morning of Thursday, August 13 in San Vito Lo Capo, in Sicily. A worker engaged in an inspection inside the treatment plant fell victim to the fumes released by the plant, losing his life within moments. But he is not the only one who lost his life.
The sudden illness
According to initial reconstructions, the man had gone down to a technical area to carry out a check when he felt unwell. The emergency call was made immediately and paramedics from 118 arrived on the scene.
The second victim
During the emergency operations, a second tragedy occurred. One of the 118 operators, while trying to resuscitate the worker with cardiac massage, was in turn affected by the fumes. The gas concentration was still very high and the rescuer went into cardiac arrest. Colleagues tried to resuscitate him, without success.

The investigations
Carabinieri from the Alcamo company intervened on site, starting investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident and verify the safety conditions of the plant.
The role of Spresal
Technicians from Spresal of Trapani were also present, tasked with evaluating the procedures adopted within the facility and identifying any critical issues related to the management of toxic gases.
