ROSIGNANO. “I want to see him, I want to be with him a little longer. Will they let me see him?” Sobs cover the words of Dorsaf, 32 years old, the wife of Faouzi Marweni, the 34-year-old worker who died at work on Thursday morning (June 4), in Rosignano Solvay, in the province of Livorno, during an inspection for the removal of an asbestos roof. In the young woman’s words there is no anger. Only pain. A deep suffering for the partner with whom she had shared dreams and difficult challenges. Her tears soak even miles away, the agony that seems destined to have no end, makes one’s skin crawl.

No answer, no question can appease this woman who, hand in hand with her husband, faced the Mediterranean in search of a better life that she had found in Italy, in the province of Lecco, where the couple had moved. And which was taken away from her, from one moment to the next. It only took the time it took for the eternit sheets to open under her husband’s feet, making him plunge down onto a machine. Without a last kiss, a last caress for their little girl.
“We were looking for a better life”
They left, together, from Sfax, the second city of Tunisia, a port city on the country’s eastern coast. “We came to Italy together on the boat, we didn’t want to leave each other. We wanted to stay together, we were looking for a better life.” Every memory opens a deep wound. “We’ve known each other since 2013. Mine was a wonderful husband, wonderful, wonderful. And an extraordinary father.”
In the background, the voice of the little girl, Jasmine, three years old, can be heard. “She’s here with me. I haven’t left her with other people. I prefer to keep her here until her father arrives. When will he arrive? How much longer do I have to wait? They can’t leave me without seeing him again.” Faouzi Marweni’s body is now at the Rosignano morgue, at the disposal of the judiciary, which will probably order an autopsy next week.

He will be buried in Tunisia
Dorsaf has clear ideas. Her Faouzi will return to Tunisia, where he will find burial. She doesn’t yet know how, she doesn’t know the bureaucracy, she doesn’t know what she can and cannot do, but she will accompany him. Meanwhile, she would like to get to Rosignano to embrace him. She can’t wait alone in Lecco, in the small municipality of Malgrate. The couple lives in a rented house, a stone’s throw from one of the main streets of the town and with Lake Como behind it.
They had told their story of love and hope together in front of the community of Valmadrera during the 2025 Jubilee. They had been involved by the parish and the Missionary Pharmaceutical Center and in front of a hundred people, participating in “Add a seat at the table”, Dorsaf (who worked as an employee in a company in Tunisia and is a graduate) had said: “We faced the crossing on a small boat to Lampedusa. We stayed there for six days, then we followed the path of the reception centers: we went to Ragusa, Milan, Cremeno and finally Malgrate. We found a home in Valmadrera and a network of help with the Cfm. We have great hope for our daughter, we have experienced that hope is a light that never goes out thanks to the helpful people we met in Italy where respect for human rights is safer.”
“Jasmine and I will stay here”
And in fact, Dorsaf knows that she will stay in Brianza with her daughter. “Jasmine and I will not return to Tunisia. I will stay in our house that we arranged together, where our things are, the memories of our happy life. Here everything speaks of Faouzi and in this country we had tried to build our life.”
Yesterday, the owner of the company specializing in roof removal, the Centro Coperture, called the woman. “We cried together,” says Dorsaf, who now needs help. Even if she doesn’t want to talk about it. “I’m not thinking about money, my husband is gone. Now I just want to mourn him.” However, she confirms that Faouzi’s salary was the only one coming into their much-desired home.
Meanwhile, investigations continue; on Thursday, all witnesses and colleagues were interviewed until late evening. At the moment Faouzi Marweni fell, he was alone on the roof. He had a harness and helmet but was not tied to the lifeline present on the roof of the Rosignano plant.
