Dengue, Iss confirms the outbreak in the municipality of Piombino: 20 confirmed cases

There are 256 confirmed cases of dengue in Italy from the beginning of the year to September 8. According to the national surveillance system of the Higher Institute of Health, 24 of these cases are autochthonous, while all the others are associated with travel abroad (56% with exposure location Maldives), no deaths.

An outbreak – consisting of 20 confirmed cases of infection, all symptomatic – is linked «to an exposure in a municipality of the province of Livorno», namely Piombino. «Further epidemiological investigations and vector control activities are currently underway», the Institute specifies.
