LIVORNO. A long chase during the night between August 10 and 11 on the Firenze-Pisa-Livorno, starting near the Grecciano service area and ending in the countryside of Casciana Terme Lari.
What happened
The protagonist was a man traveling riding a powerful BMW motorcycle, later found to be stolen in Livorno, who finally managed to disappear after abandoning the vehicle and helmet. A patrol of the Pisa highway police intercepted the motorcycle while it was traveling on the expressway. The officers decided to carry out a check and ordered the driver to stop. However, the man did not comply with the stop order. On the contrary, he accelerated, starting a chase that lasted for several kilometers. The highway police patrol followed him along the Fi-Pi-Li, while the motorcyclist tried to shake off the officers by exploiting the speed of the powerful BMW. Upon reaching the Ponsacco exit, the fugitive decided to leave the expressway and take secondary roads in an attempt to lose his trail. But even in this case, the officers managed to follow his movements.
The abandoned vehicle
The chase continued into the territory of Casciana Terme Lari, where the motorcyclist finally chose to abandon the vehicle. He left the BMW and the helmet and fled on foot, entering the fields and using the darkness to try to lose his trail. At that point, the search for the man began. The officers scoured the area in an attempt to locate him, but despite the checks and searches, the fugitive managed to disappear. However, recovering the motorcycle shed light on at least one aspect of the case: the BMW had been stolen in Livorno. The vehicle was therefore recovered and can be returned to the owner.
