Armchairs are not made to be occupied for life. Even in Confcommercio. As for the Tuscan leadership, a historic turning point is approaching, with president Aldo Cursano and general director Franco Marinoni ready to throw in the towel.
The decision to step aside, however, is not theirs. The two are forced to do so by the vote of no confidence expressed by the almost unanimous Tuscan Confcommercio structure. Opposition to the possible continuation of their experience in top roles within Confcommercio came from six out of seven provincial associations, namely those of Grosseto, Lucca-Massa Carrara, Pisa-Livorno, Pistoia-Prato, and Siena. The only provincial association that distanced itself from the front is obviously that of Florence-Arezzo, the interprovincial federation of which Cursano is president and Marinoni director.

The stop for the two is peremptory, as it even materialized with the failure to approve the 2025 final budget, from which, according to some of the main accusers of the Marinoni-Cursano duo, accounting and administrative issues emerge that suggest an imbalance of certain regional funds in favor of the Florence Confcommercio structure.
In the case of Aldo Cursano, it is not a matter of resignation, but technically a non-renewal, since his term expires next September. Born in 1963, active entrepreneurially in the restaurant and public establishments sector in Florence for many years, he was elected new president of Confcommercio Tuscany on September 14, 2021, taking over from Anna Lapini. Since 2018, he has also been the provincial president of Florence Confcommercio and national deputy vice president of Fipe, the Italian Federation of Public Establishments. “I will be,” Cursano commented immediately after the election, “a president who unites and does not divide, because it is through teamwork that the best results are achieved.”
For Marinoni, on the other hand, being a general director, the situation is different: he will have to resign. A certainly traumatic step, since for years he has been Confcommercio in almost all of Tuscany. Graduated in Law, retired for three years, he will turn 70 next June and has been the general director of Confcommercio Tuscany continuously since November 2013. Furthermore, he is also CEO of Centro Fidi, the credit body of the Tuscan Confcommercio system, and recently, last June, he was also appointed vice president of Ssati (School of Business Sciences and Industrial Technologies of Florence). An era, the one about to close, marked by Marinoni’s presence.
