Bad weather in Tuscany, storm alert: risk areas and updated forecasts

The record heat wave could be coming to an end in Tuscany. An area of low pressure coming from the Atlantic passing over Tuscany will bring rain and thunderstorms. For today, Sunday, August 16, there is a possibility of showers or local thunderstorms in the inland areas, especially in the hills (HERE THE ANALYSIS). Between late night and the early part of tomorrow afternoon, Monday the 17th, there is a possibility of thunderstorms, even strong ones, in the northern provinces and, in the afternoon, more scattered and more likely thunderstorms in the central-southern inland areas.

Thunderstorm alert

For the described areas and considering the expected critical scenarios, the Regional Civil Protection Operations Room has issued a yellow weather alert for strong thunderstorms with hydrogeological-hydraulic risk of the minor network valid from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow, Monday, August 17. The criticality notice concerns the provinces of Massa-Carrara, Lucca, Pistoia, Prato, Florence, Pisa, Livorno, and Grosseto. The thunderstorms arriving tomorrow should bring cooler temperatures although it is not clear how long they will “last.” In recent days, there had been talk of a first summer break expected precisely for August 17 with a weakening of the African anticyclone. However, this weakening seems destined to last only a short time. To have more significant changes, it will be necessary to wait for a new disturbance, expected between August 23 and 25, which could instead bring a more widespread and marked worsening. This forecast, however, still remains to be confirmed, according to the Tuscany Weather Center.

Lamma forecasts

At the moment, the Lamma consortium for tomorrow (August 17) predicts increasing clouds with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms with slightly lower minimum temperatures, further decreasing maximum temperatures, more noticeable in the northern provinces. On Tuesday, August 18, the sky will clear or be slightly cloudy with rising maximum temperatures (33-34 °C in the plains) and falling minimum temperatures.
