What happened
Around 2 p.m., the Monte Falterona Station was activated to provide assistance after a car had skidded and gone off the road, ending its run in the ravine of a chestnut grove where the vehicle caught fire. Moments after the accident, a volunteer from the Alpine Rescue already present in the area managed to reach the car along with other operators. The man driving had been pulled from the burning car by a resident who noticed what had happened. The volunteer then proceeded to stabilize the occupant and immobilize him on a spinal board, awaiting the arrival of the rescue teams.
The joint intervention to move the man away from the flames
The flames, which had already involved part of the surrounding vegetation, made a complex intervention necessary. Together with the Firefighters, the operators set up a winch that allowed them to move the man away from the most dangerous area. Also arriving on site was the active guard of the Tuscan Alpine and Speleological Rescue, a rapid response unit that ensures a quick reaction to emergencies in the areas covered by the stations. The vehicle occupant, a 78-year-old resident of the province of Bologna, was then transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital for the necessary care.

The operations also involved the carabinieri and the Misericordie of Piancaldoli and Firenzuola, who intervened to support emergency management and provide logistical and health assistance.
