She had asked for a vegan brioche because she is severely allergic to milk proteins and could suffer from anaphylactic shock, but she was instead served a regular brioche and ended up in the hospital in Sassuolo. This happened to a young mother who had turned to a “sandwich vendor” in Formigine and who really risked losing her life. This was reported by the Gazzetta di Modena.

The mother’s account
«Despite all the attention given today to the issue of food allergies – said Luisa Ferri, mother of the unfortunate protagonist of the story, fortunately not ending in tragedy – my daughter risked losing her life. After explicitly asking for a vegan brioche, and I emphasize “explicitly”, she started eating what they had given her and immediately felt ill. The “miracle” happened for two simple but vital reasons: the first is that she always carries adrenaline in her bag and used it; the second is the prompt intervention of the 118 emergency responders from Formigine, whom I will always thank, who then transferred her to the hospital in Sassuolo. Only because of this is she still alive».
Carelessness? Negligence? Today, the most basic elements of attention to rules in this sector cannot be overlooked. There are currently no specific faults but there are charges, that much is true.

«A serious allergy»
«It is important to remind those working in this sector – concluded Ferri, with the anger of someone who could have lost a daughter –, that behind a simple request for a “vegan” food there can be a serious allergy, not a whim or a lifestyle choice but a serious allergy that leads to very serious risks. My daughter is the mother of two small children aged five and three. Without immediate intervention like the one I mentioned earlier by the volunteers from Formigine, today those children could have lost their mother and I a daughter». Fortunately, the promptness was rewarded and the serious danger averted.
