RIETI. Tragedy today, Sunday, August 2, between Rieti and Terni in a road accident involving a replacement bus, a camper, and reportedly three cars, causing six deaths. Among the victims are the two bus drivers and two people traveling in the camper that collided with the bus. Dozens injured.

About 20 people were traveling on the bus. The accident occurred between kilometer 18 and 19 of state road 79 in the locality of Colli sul Velino, in the Rieti area. The road remained closed in both directions (at km 18,650).
On site for rescue simultaneously five fire brigade vehicles sent from both the provincial command of Rieti and Terni. At the accident site, law enforcement and medical personnel, as well as Anas staff.
Update on the injured
27 people are injured. Four people were transported in red code to the hospital by Ares 118 and 118 Umbria helicopters. Numerous minor injuries among yellow and green codes. On site, the Regional Emergency Health Agency is intervening with three ambulances, a medical car, and a helicopter.

The statement
“I follow with deep sorrow and great concern the consequences of the very serious accident that occurred on state road 79 Ternana, along the Rieti-Terni highway, involving a bus, some cars, and a camper. My thoughts go first to the victims and their families, struck by a terrible tragedy. I am close to the injured, their loved ones, and all the passengers of the bus involved, who are experiencing hours of fear and confusion.” Thus, in a statement, the President of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca.
“I thank the operators of Ares 118, engaged in a massive rescue operation, and the women and men of the Regional Civil Protection, who supported Ares 118, the fire brigade, and the prefecture of Rieti in assisting the injured and the operators working at the accident site. My gratitude also goes to law enforcement, volunteers, and all those working tirelessly,” adds Rocca. “In such a moment of profound pain, the entire regional community stands with the victims, the injured, the passengers involved, and their families, sharing their anguish and suffering,” he concludes.
