Deadly car-motorcycle crash: 19-year-old loses his life

CATANZARO. A serious road accident has once again struck the Calabrian territory. Late yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, June 2), along provincial road 162/2 leading to San Pietro a Maida, 19-year-old Gabriel Marchetta, a resident of Maida, lost his life. The young man was riding his motorcycle when, for reasons still under investigation, he was involved in a collision with a car.

Rescue efforts were in vain

Carabinieri and 118 emergency medical personnel promptly arrived at the scene. Despite the rapid assistance, there was nothing that could be done for the young man. Investigations are now entrusted to law enforcement, who are working to clarify the exact dynamics of the event.

City mourning

The passing of Gabriel Marchetta has caused great pain and emotion among the citizens of Maida. The mayor, Salvatore Paone, announced the proclamation of city mourning and, in a statement released on June 2, 2026, expressed the condolences of the entire community.

“A terrible piece of news that we never wanted to hear has shaken the community of Maida. The loss of such a young life, not even 20 years old, leaves the entire town stunned and shocked. My first thought goes to Gabriel’s parents and the indescribable pain that has struck them,” declared the mayor.
