The scenario: the reduction (depending on the car)
According to rumors reported by the economic-financial daily, the executive is considering not the complete elimination of the tax, but a targeted reduction. The idea would be to apply a discount to those who are up to date with payments, but based on the characteristics of the vehicle they own. The most substantial benefits would concern small cars, while the discount would progressively decrease until it is canceled for more powerful cars.
In other words, owners of SUVs, flagship cars, and similar will not benefit. Essentially, the greatest advantage would be for owners of small-displacement cars.
The measure
The measure, however, is not yet defined in detail: it will still be necessary to establish, for example, whether the amount of the discount will be determined based on the power of the vehicle or through other parameters.
If the reduction of the car tax is to be included in the budget law to be approved at the end of the year, its effects would still start from 2027, since almost everyone has already paid the 2026 car tax.
