PISA. “A very loud roar, then the floor was moving.” “The armchair started to sway.” “We ran into the street.” There are hundreds of comments received within minutes under our first post on Facebook about the earthquake that on the morning of Tuesday, August 4 was felt in much of Tuscany.

The shock generated a wave of testimonies from many municipalities. From Pisa to Livorno, from Lucca to Viareggio, passing through Pontedera, Cascina, Pistoia, Empoli, Massa, Carrara, Garfagnana and Versilia, hundreds of people shared live what they experienced.
“First the roar, then the shake”
Many readers describe the same sensation: a loud noise, followed by a rolling movement lasting several seconds.
“I felt the armchair move, I was scared,” writes a reader. “It seemed like a truck passing by, then I realized it was the earthquake,” recounts another user. From the Livorno courthouse comes one of the strongest testimonies: “Roar and swaying, lots of fear. Everyone out in the street.”
Some report seeing chandeliers sway, others talk about doors and windows starting to vibrate, and some woke up startled by the movement of the bed.
The cities where it was felt
Reports came from much of our region. Pisa and its province are among the areas where the shock was felt most intensely, but dozens of confirmations also come from Lucca, Viareggio, Massarosa, Pietrasanta, Livorno, Pontedera, San Miniato, Fucecchio, Montecatini Terme, Pescia, Prato and Florence.
There are also testimonies from Liguria, particularly from the Sarzana and Luni areas.
“What a scare”
The word that appears most often in the comments is one: fear. “I jumped out of bed,” writes a resident of San Giuliano Terme. “The whole house shook,” recounts another user from Pisa. From Viareggio, several readers explain they immediately left their homes, while from Lucca many report having distinctly heard the roar before the shake.
Some admit they initially thought it was an explosion or a heavy vehicle passing by, only to realize moments later that it was an earthquake. And those who were on the beach assure they felt the sand tremble under their feet as well.
