What happened
The young man was traveling in the back seat and seemed to have fallen asleep while the car was heading towards Turin in the early hours of the morning. The family discovered what had happened only during a stop at a service area, between the toll booths of Casteggio and Voghera. In an attempt to wake him, the parents realized that their son was no longer responding and had lost consciousness. At that point, the call to 118 was made: the medical team arrived quickly but could do nothing but confirm the death.
The illness
According to initial information, the 31-year-old suffered a medical emergency while the car was in motion. He apparently had mild heart problems and had spoken his last words about a hundred kilometers before the stop. The family was in shock, staying beside the body until the arrival of the authorities. Investigations are ongoing to precisely determine the timing and causes of death. It is not excluded that an autopsy will be ordered in the coming hours, useful to clarify the origin of the medical emergency and the exact moment when the young man stopped living.
