A routine check at the port of Ischia turned into a legal case involving a well-known television personality. The carabinieri stopped a man ready to board a ferry, asking him to show his documents. The identity card initially shown did not raise suspicions, but a second document with different data appeared in the bag, particularly the residence: no longer Naples, but Barano d’Ischia, one of the island’s municipalities.
Arrested
The man, Rosario Ibello, 56 years old, is known to viewers of Uomini e Donne, where in 2023 he participated as a courter in the “over” throne. The presence of the document with Ischian residence triggered the arrest for possession of false documents and the complaint for fraud against the shipping company. According to what the military reconstructed, that “alternative” document would not have appeared for the first time at the time of the check: Ibello would have already used it in the previous days to purchase tickets at a discounted rate, reserved for island residents. A practice that would have allowed him to travel paying much less than non-residents and, at the same time, to more easily pass the checks.
The attempt to replicate the scam and the alleged television notoriety
The story took even more particular contours when, according to the carabinieri, the man showed surprise at not being recognized as a “well-known face” of television. A detail that, however, did not prevent the military from deepening the check and discovering the second document, bringing the whole story to light.
The legal consequences
Ibello will now have to answer before the judiciary both for possession of forged documents and for the fraud charged against the shipping company. It is not excluded that the latter may request compensation for the tickets purchased with the discount reserved for residents, a benefit to which the man would not have been entitled.
