Sent to Milan The planning of the future is war-proof. And it also gets a makeover, directly at the Milan design week. There, among the many Italian and foreign proposals that combine design with many worlds, there is also an installation that talks about the sea. The sea of Sardinia, reproduced with an artistic installation commissioned by the Region and Cipnes Gallura. It is the captivating presentation of a regional internationalization plan that goes through the sea, two ad hoc degree courses, and ambitions all focused on megayachts (but also private jets). It goes through the blue economy, to put it in terms more marketable to the international public, indeed.
“Within a month we will make resources available with a very important budget variation,” also the result of the dispute closed between the State and the Region with the former having to start paying the billion euros that in the last ten years it had excessively withdrawn from regional coffers. Resources “for the professionalization of aeronautics and for naval engineering infrastructures.” The words are from Giuseppe Meloni, vice president of the Region and assessor who manages the programming portfolio. The investment is in human capital, that is, two brand new degree courses, branded by the University of Cagliari and which will end up in the classrooms of UniOlbia. In the northeast, which has been discovered as the most virtuous and driving area regarding the great expansion of Sardinian boating.

The university courses starting next year are a master’s degree in Naval Engineering – which adds to the bachelor’s degree in Naval Engineering, already existing in Olbia for two years – and a professionalizing degree course in Industrial, Electrical and Aeronautical Technologies.
Sardinia, through institutions and private entities, wants to take advantage of a series of conjunctions – the economic boom of the sea economy, the crisis of some rival markets – to position itself as a reference center of the Mediterranean. And speaking of timing, the official announcement of the two new courses follows by a few hours the alarm raised by the president of Confitarma, Mario Zanetti, who from Genoa announced: “The blue economy is growing but in the next five years 175,000 workers could be missing.” Sardinia is working to produce them itself. And it has put two and two together: regarding design, the interior designers of yachts and private jets are very similar. So are the materials. And so are the end consumers. Those who are in the shadow of the Costa Smeralda-Aga Khan airport know this well. For this reason, “in the future, we also foresee the creation of laboratories and the incubation of companies: we strongly believe in the entrepreneurial and industrial possibilities of these training proposals,” says Aldo Urru, general director of UniCa, among the speakers at the conference organized in the spaces of the Museum of Science and Technology in Milan. “The challenge is clear – the gauntlet is thrown by the president of the Gallura industrial consortium, Livio Fideli –, to make Sardinia not only a destination but a competitive economic system all year round.”
