Assoporti and the Italian Port System Authorities are participating in the Meeting for Friendship among Peoples 2026 currently taking place in Rimini and are hosted in the exhibition area of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Participation in the Meeting represents an important opportunity to tell the role of Italian ports as strategic infrastructures serving the economy, territories, and communities, and to illustrate the main challenges affecting the sector: competitiveness, energy and digital transition, intermodality, and the development of national and international connections.

“Being at the Meeting means representing Italian port activities and the contribution that our system can offer to the development of the country – declares the President of Assoporti, Roberto Petri – but it also means taking part in an event that has established itself over the years as a place of meeting, dialogue, and confrontation among institutions, the economic world, culture, and civil society, promoting the centrality of the person, relationships, and the common good. It is a value with which we particularly identify because ports themselves are, by their very nature, places of meeting, exchange, and relationship among people, territories, cultures, and economies. They are strategic infrastructures for Italy’s competitiveness, but at the same time, they are an integral part of the communities in which they operate and of their economic and social development.”
“Our presence in Rimini – concludes Petri – is therefore an opportunity to better introduce this reality and to engage with institutions, businesses, and civil society on the transformations affecting the port system. The challenge is to build ports that are increasingly modern, sustainable, efficient, and integrated, capable of supporting the country’s growth and strengthening Italy’s role in the Mediterranean and Europe.”
On Tuesday, August 25, the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini will be present at the Meeting, visiting the MIT area, where the Assoporti space is also located.
