Fuel prices have already broken the psychological threshold of 3 euros per liter at some highway service stations. This is reported by Codacons, which analyzed the prices communicated by operators to Mimit on August 24 and 25.

The highest price goes to the A22 Brennero-Modena, where the Supreme Diesel reached 3.159 euros per liter. Elsewhere, however, prices have reached very high peaks. On the A21 Torino-Piacenza, for example, served diesel reaches 2.729 euros per liter. Very high prices are also recorded on the smaller islands: in Pantelleria, a liter of diesel reaches 2.799 euros, now approaching the 3 euro threshold.
These are clearly extreme cases, and not prices representative of the national average, notes the association, but they clearly capture the direction taken by the price lists and show how, especially in the most critical situations, fuels are increasingly dangerously approaching the 3 euro per liter mark.
According to Codacons’ analysis, among other cases of more expensive diesel are the A4 Venice-Trieste, where served diesel reaches 2.699 euros per liter; the A28 Portogruaro-Conegliano, also with served diesel at 2.699 euros per liter; the A22 Brennero-Modena, where diesel reaches 2.659 euros per liter; and the A15 Parma-La Spezia, where served diesel touches 2.629 euros per liter.

Apart from that, there are the record prices of special diesel: on the A21 Torino-Piacenza the Supreme Diesel reaches 2.929 euros per liter, while on the A15 Parma-La Spezia the Hi-Q Diesel reaches 2.879 euros per liter. “No one claims that tomorrow all Italians will pay 3 euros for a liter of fuel, but the very fact that this threshold has already been exceeded at some stations must raise an alarm bell – says Codacons -. Until recently, such prices would have seemed illogical; today they are a reality at some stations. The risk is that, if the price race continues, the 3 euro mark will cease to be an extreme exception and become an increasingly closer reference for motorists.”
For this reason, Codacons again calls on the government for “structural interventions capable of protecting motorists from price spikes, avoiding stopgap measures and limited-time provisions that offer no certainty to families.”
