LECCO. «At first we didn’t believe it, we were surprised and we are very happy for the winner. It’s a mountain of money.» Massimo Sala, owner of the “Cafè” bar in Oggiono, in the province of Lecco, is still incredulous, where last night the 6 at the SuperEnalotto worth 223.1 million euros was hit. This is the second highest win ever in the history of the game and the highest ever achieved with a single ticket.

«We still don’t know who the winner is,» Sala tells Agipronews. The venue is located inside a supermarket and, explains the owner, «here mainly regular customers and locals come».

The bar, after the chain’s name change, is no longer called “Al Chicherin,” the name under which it is still registered at the legal headquarters in La Valletta Brianza. Now it is the “Cafè” and since yesterday it has become the symbolic place of the most important win ever made in its history.

Sala hopes that the lucky winner will come forward: «I hope he sends me at least a WhatsApp thank you. It would be a small recognition for the employees who work here every day, while I am sometimes away.»

Before the 223 million hit, no particularly important wins had ever been hit at the “Cafè.” «There have been wins of at most a few thousand euros. This one, obviously, is unreachable.»

And now the bar is preparing to attract new customers, even just out of curiosity. «Surely today and in the coming days there will be an increase in customers, maybe even some curious onlookers,» concludes Sala. The “Cafè” of Oggiono has become, at least for a few days, the luckiest bar in Italy.
