AREZZO. Murder or suicide? Many questions remain about the death of Mirko Frescucci, 40 years old, originally from Cortona (Arezzo), found dead around 3 AM on Saturday, September 12 in the dirt area used as a parking lot behind the San Donato hospital in Arezzo, near the Pionta park. The case is being investigated by the Arezzo carabinieri, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. In the early hours of the investigation, the hypothesis of a violent death caused by an assault had emerged. However, subsequent investigations opened a different scenario: at the moment, investigators do not rule out that the wounds may have been self-inflicted by the forty-year-old himself.
The wounds and the missing weapon
Frescucci indeed had multiple cutting wounds, presumably caused by a knife. The weapon, however, has not been found. This element makes the reconstruction of the dynamics even more complex. The body was found with traces of blood both on it and on the surrounding ground. The checks carried out by the carabinieri in the area have so far not revealed any certain evidence of a scuffle or a fight with another person. Hence the need to also verify the hypothesis of a self-harming act, which at this stage of the investigation remains a possibility and not a conclusion.
The investigation into the dynamics
The presence of several injuries, combined with the missing weapon and the absence of certain evidence of a scuffle, is now at the center of the investigations. The hypothesis that Frescucci may have been attacked by someone is not excluded. Medical-legal examinations and further surveys will determine whether the wounds are compatible with an external assault or with an act carried out independently.
The last hours of life
Investigators are reconstructing minute by minute the last hours of the forty-year-old’s life. According to what emerged, on the evening of Friday, September 11, Frescucci was reportedly at a bar in the San Donato area. From then on, there is a gap to fill. The carabinieri are checking his movements and acquiring footage from cameras in the area, hoping to reconstruct the path taken by the man and understand if, before reaching the parking lot, he met other people.
The hypotheses under consideration
Another possibility under consideration is that Frescucci may have moved independently to the parking area after injuring himself, then collapsed at the spot where he was found. The Prosecutor’s Office, with public prosecutor Julia Maggiore in charge of the investigation file, has ordered medical-legal examinations. The autopsy will have to provide fundamental elements on the causes and time of death and, above all, on the nature and sequence of the wounds. The examinations may help establish whether the injuries are compatible with an assault, a self-harming act, or a different scenario altogether.
