He had been in treatment for 15 years and had seen his psychologist just the day before, but this did not prevent the mind of Federico Vella from short-circuiting on that terrible Thursday afternoon, when he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend Lorena Isceri before throwing her off the Lora overpass on the Autosole, from which he then threw himself.

The circumstance emerged thanks to Tg1, which briefly spoke with the psychologist who was treating Vella. The doctor confirmed having met Federico the day before the tragedy, but did not imagine what he had in mind. “I was absolutely shocked by what happened, I did not expect it at all – he said –. When I saw him he was relatively calm.”
The Tg1 journalist asked him if until last week he could define Vella as a potentially dangerous and violent person and the answer was a clear no. Probably Lorena thought so too, who after moving away to be with her family in Puglia had returned to Florence believing she could manage the situation.
The psychologist who spoke with Tg1 revealed that Federico Vella had been in therapy for about 15 years and therefore it is assumed that his problems (schizophrenia and bipolar disorder were mentioned) were not minor. However, the doctor added that recently the meetings had become less frequent.
The funerals
Lorena Isceri’s body has already been sent back to Squinzano, in the province of Lecce, where today, September 9, at 5 pm the funeral will be held at the Maria Regina church. The town will be dyed red: the mayor Mario Pede signed the ordinance ordering a day of mourning for the entire day “as a sign of condolence, participation and closeness to the family of Lorena Isceri, victim of femicide.”

The ordinance also provides to “illuminate in red, in the evening hours, in memory of Lorena, the external facade of the Palazzo dell’Orologio in Piazza Plebiscito and Villa Cleopazzo in Via Montegrappa, for the entire month of September.”
The lawyer
Yesterday – September 8 – the Regional Council of Tuscany observed a minute of silence at the start of the session. Meanwhile, lawyer Cosimo Miccoli, legal representative of Lorena’s family, disputes the journalistic reconstructions according to which the woman was still alive when she was thrown from the viaduct. “It is not confirmed that she was alive – he said while intervening in the program “Storie italiane” on Rai 1 –. At the end of the expert examination, the consultant called me to say that she had not reported that Lorena was alive at the moment of the fall into the void. It is only a journalistic issue that she wondered where it came from.”
“They took 90 days to report to the public prosecutor, there will be time to establish whether she was alive before the throw or deceased – added the lawyer –. The consultant was not in a position to determine whether Lorena was alive or not.”
But honestly, the more important question that the consultants will have to answer is in what condition Federico Vella was when he killed his ex-girlfriend and whether he was under the influence of any substance.
