NAPLES. An earthquake shock of magnitude 4.7 was recorded at 19:46 today – Friday, July 31 – with epicenter in the Campi Flegrei: it is the strongest seismic event detected in the area in the last 40 years, since the instrumental and continuous monitoring of seismicity by the Osservatorio Vesuviano of the Ingv has been active. Previously, the strongest shocks recorded in the Phlegraean area had reached magnitude 4.6, with the events of March 13, 2025 and June 30, 2025.

What we know: from traffic to injuries
The effects of the earthquake were also felt in Naples. In some neighborhoods, power outages were recorded. Many people, frightened, went out into the streets. Rail traffic in the Naples hub, including the High-Speed line, was suspended for several hours to allow technical checks on the state of the infrastructure. The stop affected High-Speed, Intercity, and Regional trains.
The provisional count of the injured is four people who suffered minor injuries: their conditions are not worrying. The civil protection crisis unit has been activated, while Anas has activated the protocols and procedures provided for checks on the road sections under management. From the first surveys, it seems that the infrastructures have not suffered particular damage. The damage assessment is still ongoing.

Musumeci: the update on collapses and damages
«Four injured, damage to some civil buildings and several churches, and a lot of fear after the magnitude 4.7 earthquake that affected the Campi Flegrei area. Local authorities are committed to minimizing the inconvenience for the affected families.» Declares the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies Nello Musumeci. «I spoke with the Prefect of Naples and am in constant contact with the Head of the National Civil Protection Department, who immediately convened the Crisis Unit. We are closely monitoring the evolution of the situation and ensuring full coordination among all operational structures to provide assistance to the population and monitor the territory,» adds Musumeci.
