MONZA. Weighed, bagged, and washed before ending up in the bowl. This is the unusual adventure of a tiny emerald toad, found by a woman from Brianza while she was about to cut the lettuce purchased at the supermarket.

The amphibian had accidentally slipped into a head of lettuce for sale on the counter of the store and made it all the way to the customer’s table, who noticed its presence just in time, sparing it a cruel fate. The news of the discovery was reported by Enpa. The woman picked up the animal using two pieces of cardboard, aware that amphibians should not be touched with hands to avoid causing them harm. She then placed it in a plastic container and reported the incident to animal protection authorities. The ecological guards recovered the small amphibian and took it to the dog park managed by Enpa in Monza.
It was a young emerald toad (Bufotes balearicus), a protected species also present within the Monza Park. The specimen was finally released into the pond of the Biodiversity Oasis at the Enpa center.
