The tobacco sector is preparing for a new shake-up: from Friday, June 5, further adjustments to excise duties will come into effect, with a double movement that for the first time since the beginning of 2026 combines increases and reductions. The Customs and Monopolies Agency has indeed updated the price list, introducing an increase on a limited number of traditional cigarette brands and, in parallel, a decrease in taxation for some heated tobacco products.
Brands that are increasing in price
The new adjustment concerns six references, all belonging to two manufacturers. For these packs, the increase will range between 10 and 20 cents:
- Elixyr Red
- Elixyr Blue
- Elixyr+
- Elixyr+ X-Type
- Che
- Che Original Blue
This is yet another adjustment in a series of monthly increases that began in January, a result of the budget law that planned a gradual upward trend. A strategy that also anticipates the possible European revision of excise duties, currently under discussion, and aims to avoid overly abrupt increases in the future.

The cut on heated tobacco e-cigarettes
The real novelty of the measure, however, concerns non-combustion products. For this category, the excise duty will drop from 275 to 250 euros per thousand units, with an immediate effect on the final price: a pack of 20 sticks will cost about 50 cents less.
The reduction will affect several variants of the Virto line:

- Virto sticks Balanced tobacco
- Virto sticks Classic tobacco
- Virto sticks Copper tobacco
- Virto sticks Signature tobacco
- Virto sticks Silver tobacco
- Virto sticks Blue tobacco
A market in continuous transformation
The double intervention confirms the sector’s transition phase: on the one hand, tax pressure on traditional cigarettes continues to grow, while on the other, heated tobacco products maintain a differentiated regime that, at least for now, makes them more competitive in terms of price.
