Mourning in the world of journalism: Ennio Simeone has died. Director of Il Tirreno from May 1993 until 1996, he would have turned 90 next August 9.
Born in Avellino in 1936, he began what would be a great journalistic career in the Sixties, in the Naples newsroom of L’Unità. Then the experience at Paese Sera, before directing Alto Adige and – indeed – the Livorno years leading Il Tirreno. From 1997 to 2007 he led Il Quotidiano della Calabria.

It was Mario Lenzi, the dominant figure of the local newspaper chain of the Espresso Group, who asked me, in October 1987, to leave Paese Sera to go to his Livorno to take on the role of editor-in-chief of Il Tirreno. And it was he, just a year later, who proposed that I move from Livorno to Bolzano to assume the co-direction of Alto Adige.
