The heat wave that is crossing Tuscany is producing exceptional effects, especially on the minimum temperature front. According to the analysis by the Centro Meteo Toscana released on Saturday, July 18, some values recorded in the early morning hours could rewrite the regional climate history.

«As also reported by the Lamma website (the agency that monitors meteorological developments in Tuscany on behalf of the Region), Florence Peretola and Arezzo are probably updating the historical records of all-time highest MINIMUM temperature». The picture outlined by experts confirms an extreme situation: not only high maximums, but above all minimums that no longer fall below thresholds considered exceptional. A phenomenon that, if confirmed, would place the current summer among the hottest ever recorded.
Values never recorded before
The Centro Meteo Toscana emphasizes how Florence Peretola experienced a night – that between Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 – of absolute record. «We wondered if Florence Peretola would break its historical records. It will not succeed with the maximums – explains the Cmt – but it seems to do so with the minimums which in many respects is even worse». The data is impressive: «25.8° was the minimum temperature recorded by Florence Peretola. The highest in over 70 years of measurements ever recorded», continues the Centro Meteo. A similar situation also in Arezzo: «The same applies to Arezzo – says the Cmt again in the analysis – which marks a new record with its 23.2° minimum».

“Tropical” values throughout the region
The analysis by Centro Meteo Toscana highlights how the morning of Saturday, July 18 showed widespread conditions of extreme nighttime heat. «The minimum temperatures on the morning of Saturday, July 18 show tropical values across the entire region with an oppressive humidity like never before». A situation that confirms the trend of an exceptional summer, characterized by increasingly warm nights and a climate struggling to regain normal conditions. «The umpteenth demonstration of a record summer and a climate that worsens year after year», says the Cmt.
What to expect in the coming days
According to Centro Meteo Toscana, minimum temperatures will remain high for several more days. «Minimums will remain very high until Tuesday, July 21. It cannot be excluded that some records will be broken in the coming days». Maximums, on the other hand, show a slight drop already from Saturday, July 18, but not due to the arrival of cooler air. «Drop due to higher humidity and not cooler air». A more concrete improvement is expected from midweek: «Maximums will improve from Wednesday, July 22».
