Red alert day in Tuscany, with temperatures reaching exceptional values. As explained by the Tuscany Weather Center «the peak of the heat wave announced in recent days arrived today, Friday the 17th, with Florence reaching 40.6 degrees. In many other locations in the region, the highs were between 38 and 39 degrees».

So the weekend
The intense heat, however, is not expected to immediately give way to milder conditions. In the coming days, the discomfort related to high minimum temperatures will continue to grow, often accompanied by humidity levels that will make the nights particularly sultry.
A first sign of change «is expected already on Saturday morning, when a weak unstable passage could favor brief showers in the central-northern areas of Tuscany. Isolated thunderstorms are not excluded, especially in the Apennine areas. In the afternoon, the protagonist will be the libeccio wind, which will particularly affect the coastal areas and contribute to a slight decrease in maximum temperatures, with values dropping by about 3-4 degrees compared to the peaks reached today».
On Sunday the weather will become more stable again, but the heat will remain the main feature, the Cmt continues: in the inland areas, highs will generally be between 34 and 36 degrees, while along the coast the sultriness will continue to be felt, with still high minimum temperatures.
When the scenario changes
For a more decisive change of scenario, one will have to wait until Tuesday, when a more significant air exchange is expected, accompanied by a decrease in humidity. Temperatures will still remain above the seasonal average, with maximum values still above 32-33 degrees.
The real novelty will come from Wednesday morning, when minimum temperatures should also drop: in the Tuscan plains they could finally fall below 20 degrees, giving cooler nights closer to seasonal normality.
