The diesel excise tax discount is extended until October 5 but decreases in two phases: from Friday, September 18 to 25 the cut – which also includes VAT – will be 12.2 cents, compared to the current 17 cents. From September 26 to October 5 it will be 6.1 cents. This is what is stated in the draft decree approved by the Council of Ministers.
The text redefines the excise rate on gas oils or diesel used as fuel «from September 18, 2026, until September 25, 2026, at the rate of 572.90 euros per thousand liters; from September 26, 2026, until October 5, 2026, at the rate of 622.90 euros per thousand liters». Without government interventions, the rate is set at 672.90 euros per thousand liters.

The mobile excise taxes
«On October 5 it does not go to “zero” – said the President of the Council Giorgia Meloni in a press conference – because the mobile excise mechanism intervenes again. You know that this government has perfected, fixed this mobile excise mechanism that had remained on paper and is now fully operational. It means that from that date we will return to channel the State’s increased revenues to lower the pump cost as much as possible», she explained.
