An earthquake shock of magnitude 3.2 was recorded at 02:40 on Wednesday, September 2 with the epicenter at Monte Giovo – specifically 7 kilometers northeast of Coreglia Antelminelli, in the mountainous territory of the province of Lucca. The earthquake, detected by the national network of Ingv, occurred in a highly seismic area of the northern Apennines, along the ridge that separates Tuscany from Emilia. According to initial data, the event was shallow and generated a propagation wave felt in several municipalities of the Pistoia and Lucca mountains. Reports also came from the more populated areas of the Apennines, where the shock was clearly felt despite the nighttime hour.

«A very loud roar, then the shock»
Particularly numerous were the reports coming from the Abetone area, where many residents say they heard a loud roar immediately before or coinciding with the seismic movement. A phenomenon not uncommon in shallow earthquakes, due to the sudden rupture of rocks underground and the propagation of seismic waves through the geological structures of the mountain. “It sounded like a distant explosion, then the house shook,” some residents say on social media. Others speak of “a sharp blow, like thunder,” followed by a few seconds of vibration.

Reports also came from Cutigliano, Pian degli Ontani, Pievepelago. At the moment, no damage to people or structures has been reported.
