In the week heated by the remote controversy between regional environment councilor David Barontini and the mayor of Peccioli, and head of Ato Toscana Costa, Renzo Macelloni on the waste-to-energy plant, the RetiAmbiente assembly, the manager of the integrated urban waste cycle in the provinces of Livorno, Pisa, Lucca, and Massa Carrara, reunites and, almost unanimously, entrusts the president of Aamps, the company responsible for urban and environmental hygiene services in the Municipality of Livorno, with the legacy of Daniele Fortini.

Aldo Iacomelli is the new president of RetiAmbiente, elected during yesterday’s assembly «with 95% of the present share capital voting in favor», as stated in the final communiqué reporting the assembly’s outcome. Practically, this means that all the present municipalities voted for him, except for Porcari (which voted against) and Pietrasanta (abstained).
«I am happy, but above all it is a great responsibility – explains the new “number one” immediately – : I think my strongly technical profile was especially valued, but I am also aware that this is not a blank check and, therefore, we must get to work immediately.» For now, he will not leave Aamps, «but my commitment – he clarifies immediately – will be almost exclusively dedicated to RetiAmbiente, also because in these years, in Livorno, we have built a great staff to invest in and I am sure that, together with the Municipality, managing the transition will not be difficult».
He politely skirts the topics at the center of recent political controversies («Waste-to-energy plant? Let me study it first» he smiles), but his ideas are clear and the goals ambitious. Starting with the first, decidedly challenging: «I would like to achieve a single Tari for the entire territorial area, a fair tariff that does not grow endlessly.» Then the other two priorities: «Maximize the value of the “in house providing” model that the hundred mayors of Ato Toscana Costa have decided to adopt, a fully public service that is also a political asset to defend – he says –. Then maximum attention to workplace safety and offering good jobs with fair wages.» The new board of directors was also elected, confirming lawyer Ida Di Crosta (who also takes on the role of vice president), the Pisan Sandra Munno, and the Capannorese Giuseppe Maurizio Gatti, with the new entry of Gianluca Brizzi, representing the territory of northern Tuscany.
The new board of auditors was appointed, chaired by former board member Federico Cartei and completed by Pierlio Baratta and Chiara Raffaelli (with Sergio Volterrani and Gabriele Guidi as alternate auditors). Yesterday’s assembly soared high, above the thornier issues at the center of recent controversies: from the waste-to-energy plant to the single waste manager. But by September, those files will be back on the table. Just read the note with which the vice president of the regional council Antonio Mazzeo greeted the election of the president and the board to realize this: «We ask the new leadership for a leap forward – he said –. The necessary plants are needed to truly close the cycle, increasing recovery and recycling, further growing separate waste collection and progressively reducing landfill use.» Then the organization of RetiAmbiente itself, which was born «with the prospect of integrated waste management in Ato Toscana Costa and today serves one hundred municipalities in the provinces of Pisa, Livorno, Lucca, and Massa-Carrara. Now that territorial dimension must increasingly translate into true industrial integration».
