Urgent food recall from Eurospin: «If you have this product do not consume it» – Details

Eurospin has issued a recall related to a batch of Mambo Kids popcorn, produced by Preziosi Food SpA at the plant in San Nicola di Melfi (Potenza). The measure, dated August 10, 2026, concerns exclusively the 120 gram packages with expiration date December 16, 2026 and batch 26269. According to the official notice, «the reason for the recall is the sum value of atropine and scopolamine exceeding the allowed limit». These are natural alkaloids which, if present in quantities above legal limits, can cause gastrointestinal disturbances and symptoms of poisoning. Eurospin urges customers to «not consume the product and return it to the point of purchase» for replacement or refund.

Related case: recall also for the Salati Preziosi brand

The Eurospin recall is not isolated. A few days earlier, on August 7, 2026, a recall was issued for 90 gram packages, also produced by Preziosi Food S.p.A. and identified with batch L 26269. In this case as well, the reason is the same: «sum value of atropine and scopolamine exceeding the allowed limits». The coincidence of the batch and producer indicates that the problem concerns a specific batch of raw material or a phase of the production process, which is why the recalls were issued in a coordinated manner.

What are atropine and scopolamine and why are they monitored

Atropine and scopolamine are natural substances found in some weeds that can accidentally contaminate agricultural raw materials. European regulations set very strict limits for their presence in food, especially in cereal-based products intended for children. Exceeding the allowed values can cause nausea, discomfort, tachycardia and, in more severe cases, neurological symptoms. For this reason, recalls are carried out as a precaution, even when the risk is considered moderate.
