ITALY. The Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the President Giorgia Meloni, the Minister of Economy and Finance
Giancarlo Giorgetti, the Minister of Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin and the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, approved a decree-law introducing urgent provisions regarding oil prices connected to the ongoing new international market crisis and strategic energy infrastructures and activities.
The statement
This was reported by Palazzo Chigi in a statement released after the Council of Ministers meeting. «Considering the continued increase in energy product prices – explains the government -, the measure extends until September 17, 2026, the already active reduction of 17 cents per liter on the price of diesel used as fuel. For the same period, the same rate applies to paraffinic diesels obtained from synthesis or hydro-treatment and to biodiesel placed on the market as fuels. The tax credit granted to road transport companies is also extended».

The measure then, continues Palazzo Chigi, «finally introduces a simplification aimed at speeding up procedures related to strategic energy activities, so as to ensure that the exercise of activities of national interest in the energy sector is not compromised by delays incompatible with the needs of energy security and supply continuity».
In particular, «in procedures related to the prospecting, exploration, and extraction of hydrocarbons on land, when the competent region does not express itself on the requested agreement, an additional deadline for action and a specific institutional dialogue are provided, respecting the principle of loyal cooperation».
